A Global SOS Call from journalRAGE

June 1, 2021 by Gboko Stewart

Dear Readers:

Do not panic upon reading this message.

However, I must let it out of the bag that my brothers are up to get at me through devious means as, according to them, “I’m bringing shame to the family.”

If you are informed that I met a fate beyond worse, and it goes unreported or journalRAGE ceases publication for whatever reasons which cannot be explained, note that I may be at the end of my road, no thanks to two of my siblings. This is not an announcement of ending the race.  Certainly not. It’s a foretelling of what may have happened if I became incommunicado permanently.

Gboko Stewart, News Curator of journalRAGE

Thanks for all the support you have given journalRAGE over the past two years and counting. Ours has not been an attempt for vainglorious recognition, but for truthtelling and exposure of human rights abuses. I wish I could write more by telling you how I feel and my quiet hunger strike. I can’t right now. All my life, I’ve had to face bullies, beginning from Grade 2 at a Catholic school. And now I’m still fighting and facing them.

Where it pains the most is when it comes from within – your family. There’s no telling what could be done to a person who’s “bringing shame to the family.” The options are certainly many, and it ranges from poison, fake mugging, gun for hire, etc.

In a volatile society like Liberia where the Liberia National Police usually have interests in political cases, anything non-related thereof a la Cheeseman Cole and the missing men will definitely be swept under the rug.

Though I may be preparing for the worse, I’m still hoping for the best. Kindly continue to support our work. To donate, click here. Aluta Continua!
